Our Shared Agenda: Thinking Big
In 2008, the members of the Progressive Ideas Network came together for our first project: a common agenda for the new Administration and Congress. The result was Thinking Big, a bold compilation of the best new thinking from a diverse array of today's thought leaders. Grounded in our shared values, this cohesive plan establishes sound priorities for America’s future, and lays the groundwork for a new intellectual base in American progressive politics.
The book proceeds in three sections, from vision to values to action:
LOOKING AHEAD
We must have a serious discussion about what we wish to see in the world, on how our economy and our government best serve our society. We can begin shaping the intellectual and political landscape, the frameworks and key policies, to serve the real needs of our families and businesses in the future.

REALIZING OUR VALUES
As we confront the challenges of the twenty-first century, we cannot lose sight of the marginalized members of our community. Less still can we abandon the urgent struggle to realize a more just and democratic society—not just because the struggle is the right one, but because when we act on our values, we build a stronger nation.

TAKING ACTION
We must demand reforms that permanently shift the ground on which future debates are held. Our leaders must not only pass legislation but also shift the tone of debate, raise expectations of our national government, and define our national purpose.
