Progressive Goals Assessment
An overview and analysis of the kinds of goals, and the political thinking behind them, that a range of progressive organizations are working toward. Through this work, the collaborators intend open up a deeper discussion of “what we are for,” which often seems somewhat murky as compared with our clarity about what we are fighting against.
The kind of questions we are interested in include:
- What do an organization’s goals mean in concrete, human terms? That is, how clearly and specifically can we see the human and social implications of a set of goals?
- How do the goals intersect with larger (and perhaps contentious) questions about the nature and distribution of power in our society, including the role of the market and corporations; the role of government; equality; race and gender; and so on? We think trying to understand these intersections may help with the question of why it has been difficult to have productive discussions about our deeper goals.
